Bees and plums

I went out to this beautiful tree to pick some plums for the folks of the office and as I got closer I could tell the air was a live with buzzing I know the bees are all over a nearby Salvia (I think not sure what it is yet) but the tree is no longer in flower but fully in fruit as I got closer this is what I saw

All over the tree bees are busily filling themselves on the sweet ripe plums. The property down the hill from us have bee boxes and I am guessing that is why we are blessed with so many. I wonder what the honey taste like if it is from plum juice.

For the birds

Thursday is our garden day. There is only so long we can play in the muck and the cold. Well there is only so long I can play in it Little would play forever if she could. Of course I won’t let Little be out there to long because there is only so long you can be in the muck and the cold without catching a cold.

Little was not interested in pouring over seed catalogs and so we decided to make these little bird treats for our garden friends.

Little had wonderful time making the treats and it was a fun activity to do together. It was quite simple and didn’t take to long so it kept her attention span. Plus there is putting in all the ingredients and mixing and then smashing into cookie cutters or molds.

of course found the recipe on Pinterest and you can find it here. They turned out so well that we decided to give them as gifts to our neighbors.  If you follow the link above to the recipe you will see they made them as gifts as well and she has a cute little diy paper box to package them in!

Tomorrow we will hang some of them on our outside tree. I hope the birdies are happy!

Harvesting Carrots

this is our first experiment with permacultre gardening. So far I find it beautiful and easy to manage.

The harvest

cleaned and missing a few. Little pulled the chair over to the sink and kept grabbing them to eat. They were very tasty. I hear some kids don’t eat veggies?

My crazy garden update

yes I know it needs to be weeded but well I don’t like to weed and I find the weeds useful and pretty lol! that drives my poor hubby crazy.

those two are my attempt at some permaculture techniques where you are supposed to scatter beets, carrots, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, peas, and  radishes. Little helped me scatter.

these are potatoes. I found one of those “scary bags” that I had forgotten about. It had like 4 icky potatoes in it. so Little put them in the garden and here are there plants.

These tomatoes are volunteers from last years plants.

hopefully this grows. It is our bird house gourd.

I’m going a little crazy

ok well I am in general. Life has been well life lately and I feel pulled in many directions and excited about a lot of it. I love love love that I get to write. It really makes my heart happy. Here is the thing though. I am a planner. Oh sure that sounds like it is a good thing but it means that when faced with a new exciting task I get sucked in full force. I get obsessive about it. I am thinking about it any time I have free time. I devote all free time to it and I stay up late and work on it. This meas of course that I don’t get enough sleep and sometimes I neglect other duties. It also means that sometimes I never start a project because I am so busy planning it. That sound ridiculous and it is, but it is who I am. I’m a planner.

At the moment I am in the midst of my honeymoon love affair planning mode for my back yard and the new permaculture fabulosity that I know it is going to be; starting a soul collage hobbie (because apparently I had to much time on my hands) and the piece de resistance (kindly read that last part with a bad french accent)…a new Book of Shadows!  Anyone of these projects would send me over the moon in giddy planning but putting them all together. Man oh man I can hardly contain myself.  My husband is officially OVER hearing about the back yard and really the rest of the obsesions I am not sure if anyone wants to hear about. Lucky you though I will share it all with you. Mostly because if I don’t I will most likely burst, and that is so messy.

I am wanting to do a beautiful book with college and drawings and pressed plants etc but I started a list of everything I would put in it and I am looking at 500 pages! So do I put it all in one book or do I have separate ones?  there are books out there that are 500 pages but who wants to lug that thing around? maybe you make several a 500 page giant and more manageable ones? On the other hand why not just have the one(s) you use? There is a possibility that I need to reign it in and not go overboard, but what fun would that be. Ok new rule I must go to bed by 9:30. so I am off to the land of dreams. please leave comments with your ideas or suggestions regarding my quandary. I would love to hear them.
