Poetry month – T’was the night before Beltane

Adventures and Musings of an Arch Druidess

This is what happens when the system goes down at work.

T’was the night before Beltane

And all through the house

Not a creature was stirring

Well, Brownies chasing a mouse.

The Maypole was hung in the garden

With care

In hopes that the coven soon would be there.

The people were nestled all snug in their tents

Some of them dreaming of bonfires immense

And I in my sleep shirt and she in much less

And just settled in to state of undress.

When out on the lawn arose such a clatter

I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the doorway I flew like a fool

And promptly tripped over her mules.

The moon rose high over lawns green and dim

Gave luster to a man who was definitely not slim

Surrounded by Maenads it now did appear

That Beltane was going…

Masterpiece Monday – My Mother’s Pictures

such a moving piece

Adventures and Musings of an Arch Druidess

Several years ago I participated in a combination gallery and performance art exhibition based on the tarot called My Mother’s Pictures. It was a dream of one of the TOILA priestess’ and we made it come true for her. It was based on the Major Arcana of the tarot but as I recall we had so many people wanting to do it we ended up with a few court cards and Minor Arcana.

Every card had a physical piece of art and a performance piece. All the would be artists gathered at one of the artist’s homes and we talked about the project and then people drew cards first for the physical card and then it went around for the performance art piece. I was lucky enough to do both.

The Lady Mother has a very strange sense of humour. M and I had decided to draw for the art…

I is for Intuition

This will be a short post I can tell. Mostly because Little is running around. I have to remind myself that a post written in 5 minutes is still worth it as I am remembering my thoughts for later. They will never be as eloquent as I would like and of course not as academic as I like because who can find the right sources for random thoughts that flow through your head when you have no time to even write fully.

back to the point.

All of my spiritually relies heavily on intuition. Yes I do read history and science and legends and lore. I check sources. At the end of the day I use my intuition. I use it to find the information I need in other sources and I use it to decide if any  given rite or ritual is for me.

I think of intuition as my inner voice. The one softly guiding me down my right path. I think so highly of it that it is a key component in my teaching. Often people will ask “what does this mean” or “what should I do” often I disappoint because instead of telling them I ask “what do you think it means?” or “what do you think you should do?” or “what does it mean to you?” We talk it though and I offer insights if I think it appropriate but mostly I am teaching them to hear their own soft voice and listen to their intuition.

Masterpiece Monday Cake

I am now 34. I had a lovely birthday filled with lovely people. I got to play in my garden and made a significant dent in the garage.e Which is slowing becoming our play room/ craft room/ laundry room. I also made myself a cake. I scored Pinterest for a recipe and then tried and tried to make it. Of course I had to modify a cake so it would be gluten-free. I also enlisted the help of a friend, fellow mommy and all around amazing woman to teach me how to make frosting and frost a cake.

This is the second batch of caramel I made. It ended up crystallizing but hey it still tasted ok.

This is my first and second batch of caramel you can see the first one was way to light.

Here is me with my cake in my friends kitchen. She is an amazing teacher and has more tools than I had any clue you would need to frost a cake. We started with a measuring tape to get the layers even and all kinds of knives and spatulas.

and finally right before we ate it I put a rose on it from my neighbors rose-bush. It took a lot of time and a lot of trial and error and a lot of effort, and what better gift can I give myself.
you can find
The cake recipe here
The caramel sauce recipe here
and a swiss buttercream frosting here.

and that my friends is this weeks master piece.
