Lughnasadh (what that was so 19 days ago!)

Warning some times I write without being properly caffeinated. today is one of those days.

I thought I would share some updates I made to my book of days. I keep 4 books/ note books going that keep my life going. They are My Book of Shadows, My Homemakers binder/ day planner, My note book and my Book of days.

I am still in the process (as I imagine I will be forever) putting my Book of Days together. Because it is a binder (3 inches) I print things out and add them to the proper month as I find them. One of the best ways for me to plan ahead for next time is to do an evaluation after the event on what worked and what didn’t work. So with Lughnasadh just behind us I thought I would share with you what I added to my Book of Days (BOD) and some of my thoughts.

What worked: Frankly I think overall we had a great time. I don’t always practice with my circle. If you have read my blog for a while you maybe sick of hearing this, but I practice with a circle of solitaris. Sometimes we do things together sometimes we do things on our own. Circle or no circle what really makes a holiday (for me) are the traditions and the celebrations that you participate in. For me this means family. So often I look at what did I like that I did with my family. I liked that we had tea and made cornbread muffin for the tea. We also had popcorn for our snack that day and I liked that. I also read to here from the pooka pages Lughnasadh edition (which I printed out and put in our binder) and also the sweet Littlest Druid story (also printed and added).

What didn’t work: Thankfully I didn’t attempt any complete busts! It wasn’t so much that things failed just that I want to do more next year.

What I want to add next year: I didn’t plan a special menu and to be honest I have no idea what we even ate for dinner! ba no way to celebrate a holiday. I am thinking for next year we shall have black bean and corn relish sopas. I know it is a wheat holiday (sort of) but as you know wheat hates me so we focus on the corn part of the grain.  I also want to make corn doilies next year and I would like to make an Indian corn” wreath and hang it on the door. You can find some other cool decorating ideas here at Witch of Howling Creak.

Now I take all the cool stuff I find or decided and either write it up and sick it in my binder or print it out and stick it in my binder. When I get to next year ta da! there it is and I’m ready to go.  One last quick comment I have changed my homemakers binder (I know AGAIN!) so I guess I should share that with you all pretty soon. but I take the current month out of my BOD and put it in the calendar section of my homemakers binder.

So my dears What did you really like that you did this year and what will you add for next year?
