Olympic Games

ug a whole week and I hardly wrote.

Not much sharable stuff going on in our casa but I am excited about the upcoming Olympics.

Did you know that the flag barer in the opening ceremonies tomorrow will be a fencer named Mariel Zagunis. Did you know that just 15 years ago women were not allowed to compete int he Olympics in fencing?

Tomorrow we will be hosting an opening ceremony party.  I am very excited. I am sure I will make some sort of English food. Bubble and squeak? Bangers and mash? not sure but we shall eat drink and be merry. We will also be pulling papers our of a hat with flags on them to see what country we will be representing on Saturday.

I am very excited about this. I think we will hold off the ribbon dance portion for Sunday when my neighbor is back but we have several events planned. Horse Racing (with brooms to the end of the street and back), sailing (build you own boat and get it to sail across Little’s kiddie pool), out of the water synchronized swimming (which should be hilarious) and a few others. I think we may have some water balloon events in there too.

Yes we will be making a mockery of the games as we are going to be the ones competing and frankly not all of us (me!) are athletically talented. On the other hand it will be really fun and of course it works in with Little’s lesson plan for learning about geography and world cultures.

Are you watching or doing anything fun for the Olympics?

  1. I grew up with an Olympic fencer who was in the 1972-1980 games and her name was Blythe Devan. I think it’s saber that’s only 15 years old.

    • I really should Google things before I say them. Thanks for the correction! This is what happens when I try to multi task, Listening to NPR while singing the ABC’s 🙂
