I guess it is fitting that today, a day named for a God of agriculture I have plants on my mind. Our days have been warm and all the signs of spring are here. The daffodils lovely golden heads are nodding in the breeze and our grass is still green. The weather is warm a nice 65-70, and Little and I are spending a lot of time soaking up the sun. I am sure the warmth and sun sound great, especially to those people still in the snow. I however was raised in a farm community where we go around muttering “wheres the rain” “we need some rain”. I think we might of had one storm this whole winter! I foresee my water bill going up in the future.
This is not good. When you drive through the central valley you see the billboards loudly proclaiming “food grows where water flows” If water doesn’t fall from the sky there is not even enough for the fisherman and farmers to fight over. not to mention little family homesteads. Especially if we go back to water rationing.
All we can do is do what we can. I am thinking of starting to try some weather magic. I have not done a lot of it so it will be fun to learn about as well. Do any of you have experience with weather magic? I would love to know what you think about it.
In the mean time I am giving up on winter. March first (I think) was our last frost date, but I have not seen frost for weeks. I think that this weekend and next are going to be the time to sow the seeds in the beds outside. I guess I better finalize the plans of where everything is getting planted. Also time to see if we can manage any type of grey water system. What are your garden plans?
