The full moon

Sometimes it is the details that matter in life. The little things that you remember as time goes on. My grandmother always had ginger molasses cookies in the cookie Jar for me, when my family would go to visit. They are to this day my favorite and they always make me smile, and think of her. I like to think of ways to create memories like that.

Last night as we lay in bed my non-witch husband (super non!) said did you see the Moon. Why yes I did. It is big and beautiful. It is full or almost full I told him. Its not full he said. I looked at it. I can tell, he told me. We talked about the August mediator shower and then we went to sleep.

This morning we were talking and I told him “tonight is the full moon, and you know what that means” He perked up immediately and said “Breakfast for dinner!” Over a year ago we added this tradition to our house. We have one of those huge breakfast with eggs and pancakes and potatoes and fruit and bacon.  Or any fancy breakfast that you wouldn’t make right when you wake up. The kind that leave you full and happy and seem way to big for the beginning of the day. We love it and it is fun for us. It also helps us celebrate as a family and hopefully will give my daughter a memory of full moon night as a happy time.  We can talk about what we want to do in the next few weeks and enjoy ourselves.  We don’t cast a circle or say anything fancy. It is simple and beautiful and just a lovely family ritual. Maybe your family will enjoy it as well.

Bright Blessings

“Once, I can’t remember, I was long ago, someone strange. I was innocent and wise, and full of pain. Now that I’m a woman, everything has changed. Once, when I was searching, somewhere out of reach, far away, in a place I could not find, or heart obey. Now that I’m a woman, everything is strange.” – Amalthea from The Last Unicorn.
